2010 – 2013: Learning Construction The Hard Way (The Right Way)
I started my construction career fresh out of high school, working for a company called “Seven J’s & Associates.” While my peers were kicking back and enjoying the summer time off, I was working long shifts seven days a week as a carpenter.
I learned a lot. But more than anything, I learned the value of good, old-fashioned hard work. I busted my tail and quickly rose from carpenter to job foreman. And I learned how to:
- Coordinate teams
- Master every trade on-site
- Deliver exceptional results on razor-thin deadlines
Little did I know at the time that I was building the foundation for a soon-to-be company called BCS Roofing & Solar… which wouldn’t come for another five to ten years.
2014 – 2018: Launching Berger Construction Services
My time with Seven J’s & Associates was incredible. But in 2014, it was time to move on. And I started my own company — Berger Construction Services (BCS). We started small, focused primarily on carpentry before quickly expanding into full general contracting.
And over the next few years, we built a reputation for handling the most complex commercial projects across the region, from office buildouts to large restaurant remodels.
We certainly learned a lot. But more than anything, we mastered how to plan with precision, deliver on tight deadlines, and execute at a high level — skills that now define how we operate at BCS Roofing & Solar.
2019: An (Unexpected) Transition Into Roofing
Even as general contractors, we often ended up knowing more about roofing than the roofers themselves.
You see, they knew the surface basics — but we knew the ins and outs of the ENTIRE underlying roofing structure.. In other words, we didn’t just know how to put nails into shingles. We knew why the decking matters, how the siding interfaces, and what it takes to make the whole system work properly with premium products.
And when we realized that most roofers simply slap shingles on a roof and call it a day, we decided to go full throttle into residential roofing ourselves. We were tired of watching homeowners get absolutely screwed by overpriced “roofs” that were destined to fail. So why stand by when we knew we could fix the issue? After all, we understood:
- The inner workings of roof structures
- How to coordinate crews
- How to deliver on tight timelines
After a couple of years, roofing had become more than just a division of the company — it was its own thriving business. So we launched BCS Roofing as a separate entity. Not long after, we added solar services.
Thus, BCS Roofing & Solar was officially born in 2022.
